{"id":4435,"date":"2014-07-09T12:19:36","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T15:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greenpowerlabs.com\/uncategorized-cn\/solar-in-canadas-rocky-mountain\/"},"modified":"2014-07-09T12:19:36","modified_gmt":"2014-07-09T15:19:36","slug":"solar-in-canadas-rocky-mountain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greenpowerlabs.com\/cn\/solar-in-canadas-rocky-mountain\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar in Canada\u2019s Rocky Mountain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A town in B.C.\u2019s East Kootenay region is cashing in on its record-setting sunny weather as it prepares to become home to the Canada\u2019s largest solar farm west of Ontario. \u00a0Kimberley, B.C., broke ground this week on the $5.3-million Sun Mine project, which will be Canada\u2019s first municipality-owned and operated solar farm when it starts operating in January 2015. <\/strong>The facility will also be the first solar farm in the province to sell power to the B.C. Hydro grid.\u00a0 The solar power plant will generate enough electricity to power 185 homes, will have more than 4,000 solar-cell modules mounted on 96 solar trackers to maximize exposure as the sun moves throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an excellent example of the important leadership role communities can play in building a secure and resilient energy supply for their citizens,\u201d commented Dr. Alexandre Pavlovski, President and CEO of Green Power Labs Inc.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWe applaud the community of Kimberley for making a strategic and innovative investment in its energy future\u201d Pavlovski added.<\/p>\n<p>While the project at Kimberly is a solar farm, communities should also consider the energy resource potential of a community\u2019s roofs and walls.\u00a0 \u201cWe have worked with communities who first assess this potential energy resource.
