Microgrid powers India village in Bihar

Even as more than 300 million people still wait for electricity in India, Dharma in Bihar declared itself energy-independent with the launch of a solar-powered micro-grid. The 100 kilowatt (kW) micro-grid currently provides quality electricity to a population of more than 2200 in Dharnai village of Jehanabad district in Bihar. The solar powered micro-grid provides electricity to more than 400 households and 50 commercial establishments as well as 60 street lights, energy requirements of two schools, one health centre and one Kisan Training Centre.
“Microgrids are small-scale power grids that can operate independently or in conjunction with the area’s main electrical grid, “said Marlene Moore, Vice President Marketing at Green Power Labs Inc. “In areas with no grid or with weak grids, solar power microgrids bring “a better life’ as one citizen of Dharma commented.”
“At Green Power Labs we support design and operation of microgrids by providing high resolution solar resource analytics to support design and siting of the grid. And once operational, we can support efficient management of the grid by forecasting the expected power output of the grid in real time”. Moore added.
