Project Description

Consulting services for the conceptual design of solar technology applications at the Canadian Coast Guard College, Westmount, Nova Scotia, Canada

  • Estimate the solar resource in ‘global horizontal irradiance’ (GHI) throughout the year.
  • Evaluate the solar resource at each roof surface, based on roof slope, orientation and obstructions to solar irradiance.
  • Review the domestic hot water use of the facility; determine average daily consumption and seasonal variations, with a special focus on hot water use for the swimming pool.
  • Provide a summary review of available technologies and recommendations for solar power generation and solar water heating.
  • Suggest a conceptual design of solar water heating systems and solar power generation options, providing a preliminary specification of equipment, locations and space requirements.
