Our study provided information for Dalhousie University’s Master Plan and community energy planning process. The project identified the suitability of each of the University facilities and open areas to solar energy, and developed recommendations for applying solar energy technologies in the University’s energy mix. Deliverables included ultra-high resolution solar resource maps, with a spatial resolution 0.5 m² (illustrated), and recommendations on application and deployment of suitable solar technologies to suit the energy requirements of buildings on campus.
The SolarStar Rating™ system was used to identify buildings most suited to solar applications. The solar energy generation potential for PV power generation, solar water heating and solar air heating was identified for each building on campus.
