Green Power Labs Presents at SEPA Solar Integration Event in San Diego
- -
This week hundreds of utility executives met in San Diego for the annual Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) Solar Utility Conference. Today Green Power Labs presented at the Solar Integration Workshop on the issue of addressing the need for visibility of distributed generation for electric distribution operations.
“Based on work undertaken with one of California’s major utilities; the session will review advances in distributed energy resources (DER) visibility and integration of DERs within distribution operations, and speak to the benefits of DG visibility for electric distribution operations” said Marlene Moore, VP Marketing with Green Power Labs Inc. “It is clear the rapid and expected exponential growth in deployment of distributed energy resources (DER) has created a situation in which utilities’ electric distribution operations are faced with constantly changing requirements to ensure the reliability and resiliency of the distribution network” Moore said. She added “specifically, utilities face serious challenges resulting from a lack of visibility from customer-owned distributed PV generation. This lack of visibility impacts the operator’s ability to confidently rely on traditional power flow models within Distribution Management Systems (DMS), challenges the ability for new system controls, and disables Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (FLISR) capabilities within Outage Management Systems (OMS) on circuits with high levels of DER penetration.” This presentation follows similar presentations to industry groups in Amsterdam and Toronto, Canada for international industry leaders managing the challenges of solar integration into the grid.
